What are the possible side effects of drinking on Paroxetine (Paxil)? I've only been on them a week, so would that make it worse, or should I not be drinking on it?

Kate from Drugs.com replied: "Paroxetine and alcohol have a moderate drug interaction. Generally avoid. Alcohol may potentiate some of the pharmacologic effects of central nervous system (CNS)- active agents. Use in combination may result in additive central nervous system depression and impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills. Management: Patients receiving CNS-active agents should be warned of this interaction and advised to avoid or limit consumption of alcohol. Ambulatory patients should be advised to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities."

What are side effects of taking of changing meds as PaxilCR to Paroxetine? My prescription for PaxilCR at 37.5 mg has been changed to a generic drupParoxetine at 20 mg.My concern is how I will feel after making that switch.

jacemo replied: "My husband made the same switch and he had no changes of any kind."

Kelli550 replied: "Ah, finally, something I know about! You won't have any side effects from just switching. If you stop taking it all together, now that's a different story. I made the exact same change a few years ago. You may want to take the paroxitene twice a day for a week or so. once in the morning and once at night. The only difference is that the CR, which is controlled release, worked all day. The paroxtine is only a single dose. I recently went from taking 20mg of paroxitene twice a day to 20mg once a day. I have not have any side effects from it. You'll be ok, but you may need to take it twice a day at first."

Andi replied: "Paxil IS paroxetine. It's just like using Tylenol or using Acetaminophen. Same chemical, different name."

gazeygoo replied: "They are the same thing, paroxetine is the generic name, and Paxil is a brand name the same chemical compound."

Does (Paroxetine) Paxil Side Effects Remain Permanently? My Dr said Paxil can cure premature ejaculation. Others said it lowers your sexual drive! I'm taking paxil because i got Obsessive Compulsive, my mind always tells me i will have low sexual drive forever because of Paxil, can you please help....Are side effects remain permanently?

gurlieak replied: "Here is a link that explains the side effects for you. It might help to know the facts. and "

Kirill K replied: "Don't worry. Your sexual drive will come back after you'll stop taking medication. Good luck!"

Paroxetine and LSD ?Are there any side effects? My friend is planing to take LSD tomorow, but she is on paroxetine therapy. Is that safe for him?Can paroxetine made some side efects while combinig with LSD? I mean i would never take LSD with threecyclyc antidepressant lol i hope not :D

Mankind replied: "Prob not the greatest idea anyways. He lacks discipline!"

LMHP replied: "It's not safe to dose whether you are on medication or not. Being that your friend is already on an anti D, she already suffers from a mood disorder. Taking acid can exacerbate a mood disorder and make it worse. Also, while she is trippin', the acid will manifest itself as a mood disorder and she is likely to seem bipolar and very moody while she is trippin. It will NOT be a pleasant experience for her."

Alexis H replied: "well i looked that up today, and yes every drug has some side effest to it, either it be eatting alot or eatting to little or damage to the body. but LSD (acid) (witch there are two types of acid to take) (witch this one isn't the bad one, the other one is) isn't as bad as some of the other stuff out there like heroin.....but i attacted a site where it says everything about it. remember to tell your friend most drugs won't let your brain go. "

Shake-Zula replied: "any 2 chemicals mixed together will have side effects. you could possibily do a cross reference with the paroxetine and Lysergic Acid Diathylamide to see what the side effects might be. but i wouldnt chance it."

concept872 replied: "if your friend had depression problems i think the day after would be a concern.. u feel very drained and depressed.. if your friend is on antidepressants already it may be harder for him to deal with the day after.. i know a hard time the next day finding life dull and without meaning and i did not have problems with depression.."

spiritualjourneyseeker replied: "You friend needs some professional advice."

paroxetine side effects? I have been on this drug for about 4 days and hell does it suck. I started getting all dizzy and so sleepy to the point where I just want to lay I hardly have energy and my doctor recommends me to workout :/ Now I thought all these side effects will go away after waking up but dammit i woke up like if I had a hangover and with stomach pain today. I told my doctor about this and I wanted to get off it but he refuses me to get off the drug. The reason this was prescribed to me along with xanas 0.25 mg was for severe anxiety and phobia of going out. Now I am reading that this drug can cause you to faint and get seizures and im getting really scared I hate this drug :( I also want to know if you can go into shock by taking this?? Any help from people that take this please?? Oh and another thing Im scared to get withdraw symptoms and on top of that I cant think straight I tend to forget things more.

? replied: "Paroxetine is a very good medication for anxiety disorders. Medications affect individuals differently. In clinical studies, Paroxetine was associated with somnolence (sleepiness) in 15-24% of patients studied, but interestingly insomnia occurred 11-24% of patients. Sometimes adjusting the time you take the medication can help with this. Since it makes you sleepy, you may want to try taking it around bedtime to see if this helps. Also keep in mind Xanax is much more likely to cause drowsiness, so consider that it could be related to that. Dizziness is a rare side effect of Paroxetine occuring in less than 2-4% of patients in studies. Dizziness can also be caused by Xanax. In studies with Xanax, dizziness/lightheadedness occurred in > 10% patients, so Xanax would be the more likely cause. Seizures and fainting are extremely rare in patients on Paroxetine. There has never been a case of true shock (low blood pressure unresponsive to fluids and requiring vasopressors) associated with Paroxetine when used at appropriate doses. A lot of the side effects you are describing may not be related to the Paroxetine and are more likely to be related to Xanax. I don't know how long you have been on Xanax and if these symptoms occurred around the time you started it or not. Just something to consider. Xanax is actually a very bad drug for anxiety. In some studies it was shown to be no better than placebo. It may also worsen anxiety in the long term. It is highly addictive also. I am not your doctor, so I don't know your case. Discuss this with your doctor. There are non-benzodiazepine alternatives, such as Buspirone that can be effective for anxiety. Xanax should not be stopped abruptly because it can be associated with intractable seizures. If you are going to discontinue Paroxetine it will need to be tapered off. Do not stop it on your own without discussing it with your doctor. Good luck to you."

I am taking paroxetine 20mg and am experiencing a few side effects. ? Is it true that these side effects usually subside within the first couple of weeks when your body gets use to the drug? Also with all that I have been reading about reduction in libido; is it impossible to have an orgasm or does it just take more time? Does it take time to become erect? Laugh if you will, but I must ask. Any info is greatly appreciated.

peqli replied: "not everyone have the same reaction to drugs, this has something to do with pharmacogenomics. some may not have any side effects at all. only time can tell if you do have the side effects. and some side effects may show up after years of using it. so if you do develop undesirable side effects, you either have to get used to it or adapt, or you could ask your doctor for an alternative medication"

Can anyone tell me if the side effects,(especially the sexual ones) of Paroxetine dissapear after a while? I have been on paroxetine for 4 months now, has anyone else been on them and how did they feel. How do they work?

jools replied: "They don't disappear until you are off the stuff. I was on it for 15 months and although it did the job there were serious side effects. I put on 2 stone - I won't comment about the sex stuff. At least it was better than Seroxat."

OraclewannaB replied: "What sexual side effects? Only aware of loos of sex drive. Should've worn off by now anyway."

ayz replied: "OK it may cause impotence, delay of ejaculation or no ejaculation at all hence some people may use it to treat premature ejaculation"

snowball666 replied: "it can take time we all different i would recommend you to see Dr"

nert61 replied: "Paroxetine *is* Seroxat - well, at least the active ingredient - Seroxat is it's trade name."

lou archer replied: "I'm on Paroxetine and my sex life is great. You've made me worried now - what side effects???"

marie_mason2003 replied: "paroxetine has many side affects it will delay the orgasm or maybe none at all! becareful on them i know someone who was on em and cos of the tablets he is now epileptic be careful and do not drink on em for gods sake! good luck x"

driving_me_crazy replied: "I have been on paroxetine for the past 6 months. I found it made me hotter and prone to sweating which i wasn't before. I also could not orgasm the whole time which again i had been able to do before. The effects don't wear off unfortunately and it can be incredibly frustrating (especcially if you're in a sexual relationship). I am now coming off them and i am getting better by the day. However the most important thing about taking this medication is concentrating on solving the problems that led you to be on it in the first place. I am a different person to what i was, i have had depression for as long as i can remember. Paroxetine elevated my mood enough to get me to do things i wouldn't have done before. Because of that my life changed, it's been like knocking over dominoes. I knocked the first one over by going to the doctors and since then everything has started to get better. I hope they help you with whatever it is you're going through and if they don't then try something else. Everyone deserves to be happy and there are people who will help you all you need to do is ask them."

paroxetine---- your experiences? side effect of unfocussed vision? excessive talking? lol? OMG, for the last three months i have had the worst anxiety, been in bed most days as too scared to even get up, was devestated about the loss of a relative and was so depressed i even tried committing suicide. NO anti-depressants work for me,,,,, until, at the end of my teather, i was given paroxetine. The first night i took it i couldn't stop talking and felt so happy. Three days on, i have ventured outside for the first time, and spent all day outside! (over 8 hours...something i havent done in a good year!) I'm so happy with it...im not 100 percent "normal" yet but im finding this tablet brilliant and am able to function as a mum again! Even the loss of my g.dad isn;t getting me down, whereas before i was inconsolable. I have noticed today that my eyes seem to not focus as well though...i am very shortsighted, and cant see much without them, but im finding it a little hard to focus even on close up things. Anyone else experienced this side effect? luv all! xxx

Crouching Doggie replied: "Paroxetine as well as all the SSRIs have been a triumphant miracle in Psychiatry since 1984, and with the SNRIs we see even more effective management. I'm very glad that you're doing well, although it's atypical that you'd begin to experience relief of your underlying symptoms in only 3 days, but it's not unheard of. The vision issues you describe are common, especially at 20mg or more. These typically subside within a week or two in most patients. My only issue with agents such as Paroxetine and Venlafaxine XR is that they have short half-lives and there is a growing body of literature that patients who choose to discontinue these medications without medical supervision often experience untoward withdrawal effects, thus I simply urge that if you decide to cease usage of this medication that you consult your physician so that a proper tapering shedule can be assigned. I wish you well and I'm glad that you are back on your feet again."

paramount replied: "not yet....because i didn't experienced it yet"

I'm going to take paroxetine (Paxil). What are the strongest side effects? Actually, i started taking Paxil 3 days ago. I found it makes me sleep deeply. Once i wake up, around my eyes doesn't look smooth like when i'm awake, around my eyes looks as i was exhausted and i haven't slept....How does this happen while i'm sleeping well?.........Is this one of the side effects? Even if i dont take Paxil, everytime i sleep for looong hours when i wake up around my eyes looks like i haven't slept properly......Is this natural?

Bella replied: "Chronic fatigue, headaches, nausea, constipation, low sex drive are the most common side effects. Drowsiness is #1 you end up feeling more Zombie like. The symptoms may subside it depends if they take the anxiety/depression symptoms away. It could take up to 2 months before you notice the real effects of the meds. If it makes you calm and feel better than worth dealing with the drowsiness. I'm sure your Doc recommended for a follow-up appt to re-evaluate you. keep a list of all medication concerns and keep a diary of how you feel."

Jeremy replied: "Okay, I am on 60 mg's of paxil(generic brand) per day. The fist week or so you will feel very tired and drift to sleep right after you take it. However, it depends on your dose, like how many mg's you will be taking. After about a week, give or take, your body gets used to it and you will feel much less sleepy. Make sure you take this paxil after you wake up, instead of at night. You will have the tendency to feel kind of groggy after you wake up if you take it before bedtime. I found the biggest side affect was loss of sex drive. This is a nasty drug for anyone who wants to keep their sex drive."
